The RHI funding announced in Budget 2022 focuses on immediate housing needs
with the goal to commit all funds by March 31, 2024. The objective is to
create new units of permanent affordable housing for people and populations
who are vulnerable and targeted under the National Housing Strategy (NHS).
Through this additional funding, 4,500 new affordable units will be built with
at least 25% of investments going towards women-focused affordable housing
projects. A total of $1.5 billion was made available with $1 billion allocated
to the Projects Stream and $500 million to the Cities Stream.
Projects Stream
CMHC is currently reviewing applications submitted to the Projects Stream.
Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified after the end of the
review and prioritization period.
Cities Stream
Pre-determined municipalities have submitted a number of projects for review to ensure they meet or exceed the minimum requirements for RHI. Projects proposed under the Cities Stream are being prioritized by the municipalities.
