CMHC’s board of directors is responsible to set the strategic direction and manage the Corporation.
The Board is made up of diverse, experienced and knowledgeable directors with a variety of perspectives and skills to support the achievement of CMHC's vision, mission and values. Our Board reflects the Government of Canada's requirements and goals for diversity, equality and inclusion.
Mandate
The Audit Committee helps the Board of Directors fulfill its oversight responsibilities, including financial reporting, audit processes and internal controls.
Members
The Corporate Governance and Human Resources Committee helps the Board of Directors fulfill its oversight responsibilities to corporate governance structures, succession planning and Board renewal. It also helps with the effective implementation and application of sound human resources practices.

The Risk and Resilience Committee helps the Board of Directors fulfill its oversight responsibilities with respect to the identification and management of the corporation’s principal risks.

The Executive Committee acts on behalf of the full Board of Directors, addressing significant and time-sensitive issues that arise between meetings, where the Board cannot convene and meet the required quorum.

The Pension Fund Trustees helps the Board of Directors fulfill its responsibilities for the governance and administration of CMHC’s Pension Fund.

CMHC’s mandate, as defined in the National Housing Act, is to: “promote housing affordability and choice, to facilitate access to, and competition and efficiency in the provision of, housing finance, to protect the availability of adequate funding for housing at low cost, and generally contribute to the well-being of the housing sector in the national economy.”
