We know that applying for funding or financing can take some planning and preparation. This is why we’ve compiled a list of things to keep in mind.
Before you begin an application:
- ensure that your project meets the minimum requirements
- confirm all information required is complete and accurate to the best of your ability
- application times vary, make sure you have ample time to complete the application
Each initiative will have its own set of requirements that you should consult prior to submitting your application. Remember to read the Eligibility and Requirements section to make certain you have all of your documentation prepared.
Submitting an application
You are able to:
- submit applications for yourself and your organization (applicant)
- act on behalf of or as an agent of another person or organization (proponent)
Applications are submitted through a secure online application portal. Here are a few details about the portal that you should know:
- You will need to create an account, even if you already have one with CMHC.
- Information entered into the portal is stored in a secure database. CMHC is committed to protecting the personal information of applicants.
- Application reviews can take several weeks. You can check the status of your application in the online application portal.
- The length of each application can vary. You can monitor your progress through the application at the top of each page.
- As you move forward through the application, completed pages will be saved automatically. Partially completed pages – those that are missing required fields – will not be saved.
- You may leave the portal with your application partially finished. Any page that you have completed will be saved securely within the portal until you return.
- You can navigate through completed application pages using the links at the bottom of each page for the previous or next step.
- You cannot change the initiative/program you are applying for after you have selected it on the “Proponent” page.
- Separate applications and documentation are required for each initiative you apply for.
- The portal will time out after being inactive for 30 minutes.
- IMPORTANT: Once you submit your application, it will be time stamped and locked. You must contact CMHC to have your file returned to you if you need to make changes or add additional information.
Creating an account
If you have never logged into the portal, you must create an account.
- Select “Don’t have an account? Sign up now” on the initial landing page.
- Enter your email address and press “Send notification code”.
- The notification code will be sent to your email account. Enter this code in the field for the verification code and press “Verify code”.
- Complete your account registration by inputting your information into the form.
- Create a password that meets the displayed requirements.
- When finished, press “Create” to complete your account.
You can use your secure online account to apply to many other CMHC programs.
