As National Housing Day approaches, it’s important to recognize existing challenges and rethink affordable housing.
Many people in Canada face housing challenges
Unfortunately, a significant number of Canadians still don’t have adequate affordable housing. This problem disproportionately impacts vulnerable populations, such as racialized households, single-parent households and seniors living alone.
Rethinking affordable housing
Addressing housing affordability requires collective action and new, creative solutions. We need to bring together governments, financial organizations and other partners, such as developers, to incentivize and help make system-wide changes that address the housing needs of all Canadians.
Creating a new generation of housing in Canada
While there’s much work that needs to be done to ensure every Canadian has a place to call home, progress is being made through the National Housing Strategy. The Strategy features a range of innovative construction and research programs. These are designed to get homes built for people who need them most and support ground-breaking research for creative housing solutions.
Let's work together to build a future where every Canadian has a place to call home — discover funding and financing programs.
