(Visual: Screen transitions to show Romy Bowers, President & CEO of CMHC, sitting in an office building, speaking into the camera. Her title appears in the bottom of the screen.)
Every year on National Housing Day, I reflect on why housing is so important. We all know that it’s more than a roof over our heads.

It’s the foundation for everything we do.

(Visual: As Romy Bowers speaks, the screen transitions every few seconds through a series of shots: a couple standing in front of a house entrance on a sunny day; another woman and man seen inside a home; a woman standing outside in front of Indigenous multi-unit housing; two construction workers outside talking at the back of their pickup truck; a close-up of one of the workers marking up blueprints; a panoramic shot of a building site and mountains beyond; an urban building site with workers; the structure of a large building under construction, with machinery driving by; a woman on a balcony overlooking a cityscape; an elderly woman gardening on a balcony with mountains beyond; a view of a small city surrounded by mountains; another shot of the first family, this time in their driveway seen from a distance; a street lined with new row housing; a man outside a two-story multi-unit property; a woman cuddling a young child on a couch; a man in front of a concrete cityscape; a close-up of a woman smiling, sitting in a living room; a man in a baseball cap sitting in a hotel room with a kitchenette, guitar in his lap; a woman in a small room, surrounded by Indigenous handiwork, materials and equipment; a man perched on a worktable next to wooden 3D building models.)
I’m also reflecting on the need to think differently about how we tackle housing challenges. That’s why we want to work with partners across the housing sector. Let’s find new ideas that will help accelerate the housing construction that is urgently needed.

How can we work together to find innovative ways to get more Canadians the homes they need at the price they can afford?
