This Research Insight focuses on a research project led by the Native Women’s Association of Canada. The project’s goal was to develop a Sustainable, Affordable, Accessible, and Culturally Appropriate (SAACA) housing model tailored for Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, transgender and gender-diverse+ (WG2STGD+) individuals.
Key objectives of the project include:
- identifying successful housing features and models for SAACA housing in First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities across various regions and communities in Canada
- creating a SAACA housing model preliminary design with the help of architects, incorporating key features and metrics identified through research
- providing designers, architects, developers and policymakers with essential insights into the housing design needs of Indigenous WG2STGD+ peoples
