Rethinking Rental in the 21st Century —The Rise of Renting
Throughout Canada, renting is changing. No longer thought of or experienced as a temporary stage in the life course, but a new normal for a growing segment of society. Yet as the demand for rental continues to grow, it is becoming more precarious, less available, and far less affordable than it has been in previous decades.
This has implications for how we ensure that everyone in Canada has a home that they can afford and that meets their needs. In this first symposium, we consider the rise of renting and its major transformations, through the experiences of key people and places.
