As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on total expenditures for travel, hospitality and conference fees incurred by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2023.
Expenditures on travel, hospitality and conference fees incurred by CMHC are related to activities that support our mandate and corporate strategy. For more information on CMHC’s mandate and corporate strategy, see the Summary of the Corporate Plan.
This disclosure does not contain information withheld under the Access to Information Act or the Privacy Act.

Significant variances compared to the previous period
Travel — Compared with fiscal year 2022, travel expenditures increased due to the removal of travel restrictions brought on by the global pandemic. 2023 is the first full calendar year of post pandemic travel. There has been an overall decrease of travel expenditures compared to 2019 pre-pandemic numbers.
Hospitality — Compared with fiscal year 2022, hospitality expenditures increased due to the removal of travel restrictions brought on by the global pandemic. 2023 is the first full calendar year of post pandemic activities.
Conference fees — Compared with fiscal year 2022, conference fees increased due to the removal of travel restrictions brought on by the global pandemic. 2023 is the first full calendar year of post pandemic activities.

Significant variances compared to the previous period
Travel — There was significant variance in travel expenditures compared to fiscal year 2021 due to the removal of travel restrictions brought on by the global pandemic. Travel has resumed in 2022 and is consistent with 2020 travel figures.
Hospitality — There was significant variance in hospitality expenditures compared to fiscal year 2021 due to the resumption of activities after the removal of COVID-19 restrictions.
Conference fees — There was significant variance in conference fees compared to fiscal year 2021 due to the resumption of activities after the removal of COVID-19 restrictions.

* Effective April 1, 2017, total annual travel expenditures must be disclosed per travel category (see above) and an explanation of significant variance be provided on total travel expenditures. Previously, total travel expenditures were disclosed using travel categories of employees and non-employees.
Significant variances compared to the previous period
Travel — compared with fiscal December 31, 2017, travel expenditures have increased as CMHC continues with its technology and business transformation, all project work has been outsourced to external consultants and their costs for travel and accommodation reflect the efforts and are in alignment with the project costs.
Hospitality — there was no significant variance in hospitality expenditures compared to fiscal year 2017.
Conference fees — there was no significant variance in conference fees compared to fiscal year 2017.
